Frequently Asked Questions

What is ROXiva light therapy?
ROXiva is a neurotechnology device that delivers full-spectrum light pulses through closed eyelids at precise frequencies. These frequencies trigger the brain's Frequency Following Response, causing brainwave activity to synchronize with the stimulus. This reliably guides access to alpha, theta, or delta states.
Is brainwave entrainment real science?
Yes. Brainwave entrainment — the brain’s frequency-following response to rhythmic light and sound — is a well-documented neurological phenomenon supported by decades of peer-reviewed research. Recent studies from MIT’s Picower Institute have shown that 40Hz gamma stimulation reduces Alzheimer’s pathology markers and sustains cognition over multi-year trials. Sensorimotor rhythm (SMR) neurofeedback has been recognized at the “Clinical Guidelines” evidence level by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This isn’t alternative science — it’s active, expanding neuroscience research.
What’s the connection between Ayurveda and brainwave therapy?
NeuroVeda uses two frameworks intentionally. Neuroscience provides the mechanism — specific frequencies, documented neural effects, measurable brain states. Ayurveda provides the personalization — a constitutional framework that helps match you to the right session based on your individual balance. We don’t claim Ayurveda is neuroscience, and we don’t claim neuroscience captures everything Ayurveda knows. We use both because your wellbeing benefits from more than one lens.
How are NeuroVeda sessions designed?
Each session targets specific brainwave frequency bands using the ROXiva RX1 device. The frequency protocols are based on published neuroscience research — Delta for deep restoration, Alpha for calm focus, 40Hz Gamma for cognitive clarity. The Ayurvedic layer (dosha and guna associations) is then applied by Jo Tandberg, certified Ayurveda counselor, to help personalize session selection to your constitutional needs. The result: 115+ sessions, each with a clear neurological target and an Ayurvedic wellness context.
Is it safe?
Yes, for most people. There are contraindications for epilepsy, photosensitive conditions, pregnancy, and a few others. See our complete contraindications list on the ROXiva page. If you have any health concerns, discuss them with Jo before booking.
Do I need to believe in Ayurveda for it to work?
No. Both ROXiva and Ayurveda are evidence-based approaches. Brainwave entrainment is measurable, and Ayurvedic principles align with modern neuroscience understanding of the nervous system. You don't need any prior beliefs — the results speak clearly.
Can I access sessions remotely?
ROXiva sessions require in-person attendance on Salt Spring Island, BC, where Jo has the equipment. Ayurveda consultations are available worldwide via video call, and you can take the Dosha Quiz from anywhere.
How many sessions do I need?
Most clients notice significant effects from a single session. For lasting change and deeper integration, a series of 3–8 sessions is recommended. The exact number depends on your goals and constitution.
What should I expect during a session?
You'll recline comfortably with the ROXiva device positioned above your face. The session is 30–60 minutes of guided light and sound. Many people report vivid imagery, deep relaxation, or emotional insights. After the session, there's a brief grounding period and discussion of your experience.
What's the difference between the Dosha Quiz and a full consultation?
The quiz provides a quick profile and session recommendations in 2 minutes. The full consultation is a 75-minute deep-dive with Jo, including, detailed dosha assessment (Prakriti and Vikriti), dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and a personalized care plan.
How do I book?
Use the Book a Session page to see our Calendly booking calendar. Alternatively, take the Dosha Quiz first — it will recommend sessions and provide booking options based on your profile.

Science & Research

Common questions about the neuroscience behind our approach

What is brainwave entrainment?
Brainwave entrainment is the brain's natural tendency to synchronize its electrical activity with external rhythmic stimuli, known as the Frequency Following Response. When exposed to pulsed light or sound at specific frequencies, brainwave patterns shift to match, promoting states like deep relaxation (alpha), meditation (theta), or focused attention (beta/gamma).
What are the different brainwave states?
There are five primary brainwave states: Beta (13–30 Hz) for alert, focused thinking; Alpha (8–12 Hz) for relaxed awareness and creativity; Theta (4–8 Hz) for deep meditation and insight; Delta (0.5–4 Hz) for deep sleep and restoration; and Gamma (30–100 Hz) for higher cognition and neural integration. Each state correlates with specific dosha characteristics in Ayurvedic understanding.
What does the research say about 40Hz gamma stimulation?
40Hz gamma entrainment is an active area of scientific research. Studies, including work published by MIT researchers, are exploring how 40Hz stimulation may promote glymphatic clearance and support neural health. This research is presented for educational purposes — Vedazon does not claim to treat or cure any condition.
Is there scientific evidence for Ayurvedic practices?
Yes. Peer-reviewed research has found measurable correlations between Ayurvedic constitutional types (Prakriti) and gene expression patterns. Yogic breathing practices (Pranayama) show measurable effects on brain functional connectivity, and traditional rejuvenation formulas (Rasayana) demonstrate neuroprotective properties. Visit our Science page for detailed references.
What is photobiomodulation?
Photobiomodulation describes how specific light wavelengths and frequencies trigger biochemical responses at the cellular level, particularly in mitochondria. Research suggests this process supports cellular energy production and tissue recovery. The ROXiva device works with visible light pulses through closed eyelids to promote brainwave entrainment.

Ayurveda & Consultation

Understanding Ayurvedic assessment and what to expect

What are the three doshas?
The three doshas are Vata (Air & Ether), Pitta (Fire & Water), and Kapha (Earth & Water). Each person has a unique combination of these constitutional forces. When balanced, they support vibrant health; when out of balance, they can manifest as physical or emotional discomfort. Your dosha profile guides personalized wellness recommendations.
What’s included in an Ayurveda consultation?
A full consultation includes: a comprehensive dosha assessment (both your birth constitution, Prakriti, and current state of balance, Vikriti), dietary and lifestyle recommendations tailored to your constitution, herbal suggestions, light therapy session pairing recommendations based on your dosha, and a personalized care plan.
Do I need any preparation before my consultation?
No special preparation is required. It helps to think about your current health goals, any concerns you’d like to address, and your daily routines (sleep, diet, exercise). If you’ve taken the Dosha Quiz on our website, your results will already be in our system as a starting point.
Can I combine Ayurveda counselling with light therapy?
Yes. We offer a combined Consult + Light Session package (2 hours) that begins with a full Ayurveda consultation and moves directly into your first personalized ROXiva light therapy session. This is our most comprehensive offering and allows Jo to calibrate your light session based on your dosha assessment.
Is Ayurveda counselling available remotely?
Yes, Ayurveda consultations are available worldwide via video call. However, ROXiva light therapy sessions require in-person attendance on Salt Spring Island, BC, where Jo has the equipment. Remote clients receive a full dosha assessment, dietary and lifestyle plan, and recommendations they can implement at home.

Booking & Sessions

Practical details about scheduling and session options

What session types are available?
We offer three session types: Ayurveda Consultation (75 minutes, in-person or remote) for a comprehensive dosha assessment and personalized wellness plan; ROXiva Light Session (60 minutes, in-person only on Salt Spring Island) for a guided brainwave entrainment experience; and the Consult + Light Session (2 hours) combining both for the most complete experience.
Where are in-person sessions held?
In-person sessions take place on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. This is where Jo practices and where the ROXiva equipment is located. The island setting provides a naturally calming environment for your wellness experience.
What’s the difference between the three booking options?
