The Winter Solstice brings the longest night and the shortest day. Here in the Northern Hemisphere we tilt away from the sun, and in doing so we’re drawn inward — toward the dark, the internal, the quiet sanctuary within ourselves. Some years the solstice arrives with a full moon, or a meteor shower, for anyone lucky enough to catch a clear sky. Here on the coast, the light can be gone by late afternoon and the fog so thick the moon is barely a rumour — yet her presence is felt all the same.

I love this season. Not for the holidays or the rush, but because it marks a genuine shift. It opens a doorway to step down, to be still and silent, and to prepare for the slow return of light and new experience. A new year approaches, and with that turning — from dark toward light, from one year into the next — we’re offered another chance to create the life we truly long for, in vivid colour.

There’s an old Turkish proverb: “No matter how long you have travelled down the wrong road, turn back.” Sometimes we need a particular tradition, a date on the calendar, or even a hard moment to wake us up — to take ownership of our choices and redirect ourselves onto the path where we can actually thrive.

We know when we know that something needs to change. Sometimes we get so caught up in our version of the story — spinning it, dramatizing it, even martyring ourselves through it — that we miss what’s underneath. And yet, deep down, if we listen, we can feel when something in our lives isn’t serving our highest good. We know.

So gift yourself the time for stillness, silence, and space. Give your soul some real, attentive time to search and to listen for the answer that’s already waiting to be heard. I invite you to ask, to listen, and then to act — to create the story that brings you joy, a true sense of well-being, and a laugh somewhere in every day.

Happy Solstice. May you find peace, joy, and love within your hearts.
