Jo Tandberg
- NAMA Certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor (CAHC)
- Ayurveda Wellness Counselor, Kerala Ayurveda Academy
- Certified Yoga Teacher and NAMA PACE Provider
- Co-Founder of Vedazon
Jo Tandberg brings a background in Ayurveda, yoga, botanical formulation and professional education to her work on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. Since beginning her Ayurvedic counselling practice in 2011, she has helped people explore how food, daily rhythms, rest and environment relate to their individual experience of wellbeing.
Her work begins with listening. The circumstances of your life matter alongside your constitution: the demands on your time, the changes you are navigating and the practices you can realistically sustain. Through Ayurveda Counselling, Jo helps translate that understanding into personal guidance you can use in everyday life.
A curiosity that became a calling
As a child, Jo was fascinated by a microscope that allowed her to look more closely at the world. That curiosity has stayed with her through years of study and practice, informing her interest in the relationship between what we can observe and what we experience.
A life-changing health diagnosis in the early 1990s gave that curiosity a personal direction. Her search for a fuller understanding of health led her toward yoga, Ayurveda and the study of plant medicine. The experience continues to inform her respect for people navigating complex health concerns and her commitment to thoughtful integrative care.
Jo values informed questions, careful observation and appropriate medical care. She brings those values to her teaching as well as her client work, helping people make sense of wellness information and consider how it applies to their own lives.
Ayurveda in everyday life
Jo completed her Ayurvedic Life Coach training through the American Institute for Vedic Studies in 2010 and her Ayurveda Wellness Counselor training at Kerala Ayurveda Academy in 2011. She also completed Usui Reiki Level Two training in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2011. Her practice has grown through private consultations, group programs, seasonal guidance and continuing education.
Ayurveda gives her a framework for exploring individual tendencies and the patterns that change over time. A consultation may consider digestion, sleep, energy, stress and the routines that shape a day. Jo helps clients turn those observations into manageable practices, with attention to their circumstances and stage of life.
Teaching through movement and experience
Jo is a certified yoga and meditation teacher whose background includes Raja and Hatha yoga training at Sundara College of Yoga and further study with Yoga Spirit Studios. She has taught at Yoga on Baxter in Louisville, Stillpoint Yoga in Encinitas and Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon, Washington.
Her classes bring Ayurvedic understanding into movement, breath and meditation, with practices responsive to students’ physical needs and energy. In 2016 and 2017, she also co-taught a 200-hour yoga teacher training program through Yoga Spirit, teaching philosophy, Ayurvedic principles, teaching methodology and the business of yoga.
Since 2010, Jo has organised and led wellness retreats in the United States and abroad. These programs create time for learning and practice within a setting that supports rest, connection with nature and personal attention. Retreat leadership has been a longstanding part of her work, alongside one-to-one counselling and community teaching.
The development of NeuroVeda
In 2025, Jo and her husband, physicist Erik Tandberg, co-founded Vedazon. Their collaboration brings her experience in Ayurvedic observation and personal care into conversation with his background in physics and technology.
Within NeuroVeda, Jo leads client intake, preparation and integration. She considers a person’s constitution, current patterns and intentions when preparing an experience, alongside appropriate screening and attention to comfort. Guided light and sound offer another way to explore rest, attention and awareness.
Jo’s role is to keep the experience connected to the person receiving it. What someone notices during a session can become the beginning of a conversation about daily life, with space for reflection and practical follow-through. Ayurveda, contemporary research and lived experience each contribute their own perspective.
Working with Jo
Today, Jo lives on Salt Spring Island with Erik and their dogs. She offers Ayurveda Counselling in person and by video, alongside in-person NeuroVeda experiences. Her work welcomes people who want to understand their patterns more clearly and find practices that fit the life they are living now.
You may arrive with a particular concern or simply with curiosity. The starting point is a thoughtful conversation and time to understand what brings you here.
In the press
Jo was profiled in the Winter 2014 issue of The Gorge Magazine in A Journey from Patient to Healer, written by Ruth Berkowitz with photographs by Tim Doty. The three-page feature traces the personal experiences that led her toward yoga and Ayurveda, and documents her early Ayurvedic counselling work at Trinity Natural Medicine in Hood River.

Plant medicine and botanical formulation
Jo’s study of Ayurveda developed alongside an interest in how plants are prepared and used. She founded Canna-Veda Consulting in 2014 and ZV Botanicals in 2018, creating a boutique product line that combined Ayurvedic herbs, essential oils and cannabis extracts in body oils, tinctures, teas and bitters.
As founder and CEO of ZV Botanicals, she worked across formulation, production, labelling and public education. Her cannabis training includes the Medical Cannabis Institute and Dr. Dustin Sulak’s Healer program. She has taught Ayurvedic professionals, medical staff and nurses about responsible use, dosing considerations, side effects, precautions and research.
This work strengthened her attention to individual response and to the importance of clear, practical information. It remains part of the background she brings to wellness education and personalised care.
Speaking and professional education
Jo has delivered numerous presentations, workshops and continuing education sessions for Ayurvedic practitioners, herbalists, nurses, medical staff and community audiences. Her teaching explores Ayurveda, botanical medicine and cannabis, connecting concepts such as constitution and digestion with research on the endocannabinoid system and practical considerations for individualised care.
Her speaking experience includes the National Ayurvedic Medical Association’s 2023 annual conference, its VedaTalks program and the American Herbalists Guild’s 2020 online symposium, where she presented on cannabis and the endocannabinoid system. She has served as a NAMA Professional Ayurvedic Continuing Education provider and is featured in the Holistic Cannabis faculty listing.
One example is her Clinical Conversations presentation, Ayurveda & CBD, hosted by Holistic Caring and The Green Nurse. It introduces Ayurvedic principles, nourishment and digestion alongside cannabinoids, terpenes, dosing and individual response. This is part of a wider body of teaching developed through years of counselling, workshops and professional presentations.
Education and community service
Before entering the wellness field, Jo earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication, magna cum laude, from Georgia Southern University in 1993. She also trained as an Alternative Dispute Resolution Specialist through the American Academy of Family Mediators that year. Communication and careful listening remain central to her work as a counsellor and educator.
Her commitment to education has also taken the form of community leadership. She helped found the White Salmon Valley Education Foundation and served as vice president from 2005 to 2007. She was chief organiser of its annual Grape Escape fundraiser from 2006 to 2008, and later organised a Warriors for Healing yoga event for veterans.
